Waiting Rooms And Reception Areas –Your Book Can Read By A Captive Audience

What are the people in your community reading when they are in the waiting room or reception are of your local Doctor, Dentist, Auto Repair Shop, Animal Vet, Chiropractor, Hospital,  or  Any Other Business With A Reception Area, Chances are they are reading a magazine or some other literature far inferior to your book. So why not place your book in those waiting areas? It is quite possible the exposure your book receives to these men/woman/children in waiting will lead to sales of your book.

Start with your immediate network. First, make a list of all of the places you and your family do business with which have a waiting room or reception area. Then approach each business to see whether they will purchase a book for the business to be shared with their customers/patients in waiting. If not, donate a book to their office, clearly noting in the book you donated the material as well as how the book can be purchased if the reader wants a copy of their own. You might even write on the outside of the book: Property Of (List the name of the company) to deter those who may want to permanently borrow the book.

Some businesses may even allow you to place a display in their waiting area so that people can buy your book onsite.

Remember, 80% of all books bought are because of word of mouth. Get your book in front of as many people as possible. While you are reading this someone in a waiting room somewhere is reading something other than your book.

100 Influential People Who Can Affect Your Life

People of influence have the power to affect and persuade the behaviors of others. In your life there are people who can “recommend” your book, products or services to others who will spend money with you due only to the recommendation of the influencer. Before you go to bed tonight write a list of the 100 most influential people in your life. These may be managers, business owners, government officials, media types, teachers, clergy, officers in organizations or any other people you know have the respect of others. Within the next few days contact each and let them know how much you appreciate them. Then communicate the value and benefits of reading your book. You can then ask each of them to recommend your book to others they feel can benefit from owning your literately work.

Additionally, ask if you can also secure their recommendation in writing. A positive document from an influential person can be a strong marketing tool to assist your book in reaching its full potential.

While this process may move you out of your comfort zone, the positive long term gains will overshadow any short term discomfort.

Happy marketing!

Publisher V. Publicist - Let The World Know You Exist!

As we all work to achieve the next level of success, it is nice to know the team we want to surround ourselves with. The best place to start is in defining the team members and their roles.
The Publisher is involved the process of production and dissemination of information available for public view, such as your book. We give worldwide distribution so people you never meet will have the opportunity to buy your book.
A publicist is a person whose job is to generate and manage publicity for you and your book. In the world of celebrities, unlike agents or managers, publicists typically take a monthly fee for serving a client (whereas agents and managers tend to take a percentage of their client's gross income). Publicists can be at local, regional or national level. They can also have special expertise in areas such as entertainment or literary publicity.
One of the publicist's main functions is to generate press coverage on behalf of clients and to serve as the bridge between clients, their public and
media outlets. A publicist writes press releases, manages campaigns and performs other public relations functions. It usually takes many years to develop the media contacts, experience and relationships necessary to be an effective publicist. Some publicists specialize in representing 'ordinary' members of the public to procure the maximum possible fee for stories they wish to sell to newspapers, television stations and magazines.
Publicity is the deliberate attempt to manage the public perception of a subject, such as you and your book. Promotion is one of the four elements of marketing mix (product, price, promotion, distribution). It is the communication link between sellers and buyers for the purpose of influencing, informing, or persuading a potential buyer's purchasing decision.

A press agent is a professional publicist who acts on behalf of his or her client on all matters involving public relations. Press agents are typically employed by public personalities and organizations such as performers and businesses. A press agent will provide information to the media such as upcoming public events, interview opportunities, and promotional dates, and will work with the media in getting in touch with an appropriate client or resource. Press agents are occasionally required to act as "spin doctors" –- to put into the best light their clients' public actions. While press agents have traditionally worked with newspapers and television, they must also be conversant with newer media forms such as blogs and podcasts.
An agent is one who negotiates on behalf of the principal or bring him and third parties into contractual relationship.
A Business Manager in all business areas and organizational activities acts in getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives efficiently and effectively. Management comprises planning, organizing, staffing, leading or directing, and controlling an organization (a group of one or more people or entities) or effort for the purpose of accomplishing a goal. Resourcing encompasses the deployment and manipulation of human resources, financial resources, technological resources, and natural resourcesA Business Manager is a person who manages the work of others in order to run a business efficiently and make a large profit

Interview Questions - Be Prepared!

Whether it be on the radio, TV, at a book-signing or at any gathering, you should be prepared to talk about your book in way which is not only informative, bu also compels others to buy your book. Preparation is key in presentation so you do not stumble on your tongue or brain when the moment arrives, especially those unexpected opportunities to promote your book.

Here are a few questions for which you should have prepared a memorable answer. When you get booked for an interview you can give the interviewer these questions to make the life easier.

To get you started:

1 - What is your book about?

2 - Why would someone read your book?

3 - Did you draw on real life experiences to write the book?

4 - What inspires you to write?

5 - What one other thing would you like to share?

And remember to let everyone know your book is available at their favorite on-line or local bookstore.

2 Marketing Tips (Hilarious Video)

Check out the hilarious video via the link at the bottom of this post. Thanks to Shirley Hall, author of the books "One Day" and "Listen", for sharing this 2 minutes and 40 seconds piece.
There are 2 very important lessons here for ANYTHING you market:
1 - Know your target audience, connect with them and marketing accordingly to get the result you desire,
and
2 - Do something unique to set yourself apart. This author used music, singing, humor, video, satire, etc. to let the world know he and his product(s) exist. What are you doing to set yourself apart and let the world notice you? In my public speaking presentations I usually utilize my trumpet. It is fun, gets a point across and is memorable. I might even bring it to a book signing or two.
Enjoy the video.

Create a 20 minute presentation today!

Every book has a value and a message. The value may be to entertain or inform; the message may be a call to action. You are a published author – an authority on your topic. So today, take a few minutes to list the value and message of your book and create a 20 minute presentation around those points.  Practice and refine your presentation for a week, soliciting feedback from those you trust.

Begin to contact networking groups, business groups, companies, churches, schools, etc, anyplace where your message is appropriate and applicable, and ask to be scheduled to be the guest speaker at their meetings. Also, ensure they will allow you to bring books to sell after your presentation.

Your book and speaking will take you places you never thought possible. This semester alone I have made 4 presentations at universities, as well as several other speeches at other venues. It is very rewarding to see how ones book can affect others in a positive fashion.

If you need assistance in forming your presentation or getting over any apprehensions you may have about presenting to people, feel free to contact me at Peter@TotalPublishingAndMedia.com.

Have fun letting the world know you and your book exist!

Many times us authors forget we are not selling a book, but an experience, regardless of genre. Knowing that people buy emotionally and justify logically, we must understand what emotions readers experience when they read our book.

Today list five emotions your readers experience when they read your book. Talk about these emotions when you market your book. You will find a much stronger connection with your readership and may sell more books.
